Odins vs NIQ
NIQ (NielsenIQ) launched marketing mix modeling and matched market testing in its media division in October 2024, built on its store-level point-of-sale data. NIQ has been a separate company from Nielsen since 2021. Here is how its MMM compares with Odins: what NIQ genuinely does well, and where the two differ.

Credit first: NIQ owns the sales data.
Few MMM providers can link your media to store-level sales they measure themselves. For a consumer goods brand selling through retail, that is a real advantage, and NIQ built its MMM on it.
- Store-level point-of-sale data from its own retail measurement, linked to your media in one model
- Matched market testing next to the MMM, to read a campaign's sales effect before full rollout
- Global reach: MMM coverage in 75 or more countries, per its launch announcement
- Portfolio views with short and long-term effects and halo across brands
Start from your own sales signal.
NIQ starts from the retail sales data it measures and builds consultative MMM on top. Odins starts from your own data, whatever you sell and wherever you sell it, and runs one Bayesian model per market as a managed service, on data that arrives daily, with a monthly recommendation a person has reviewed.
- Any sales signal works, including orders, subscriptions, applications and leads, so the model fits businesses that do not sell through measured retail
- Priors set with your team in 2 to 3 working sessions, from spend history, digital saturation signals and structured interviews
- Data flows in daily, the model is retrained monthly, and scenarios and forecasts are yours to run any time, in the platform or from Claude via the Odins MCP
- Forecasts stored before actuals arrive and checked at each retrain, so the model's record is open to inspect
Channel contribution, 80% ranges
from the posteriorA tight range is a decision. A wide range is a test plan, with cost boundaries.
The choice
Who should choose which.
Both model offline and digital media and both take tests seriously. The choice turns on where your sales data lives and how you want the model run.
Choose NIQ if
- You sell consumer goods or durables through retail that NIQ already measures
- You want MMM tied to store-level sales and matched market tests from one data supplier
- You run a portfolio of brands across many countries and want one consultative partner
Choose Odins if
- Your sales run through your own channels: ecommerce, subscriptions, applications or leads
- You want a recommendation every month, reviewed by a person, and scenarios you run yourself any time
- You sell in markets where one national weekly series makes priors decisive
The honest overlap
Both put TV and digital in one model, both read halo and long-term effects, both pair the model with tests. The test that separates us is a meeting: ask each vendor to open the model behind one recommendation, with the priors, the saturation curve and how the last forecasts compared with actuals.
Frequently asked questions.
Is NIQ the same company as Nielsen?
No. NIQ (NielsenIQ) has been a separate company from Nielsen since March 2021. Nielsen sold its own marketing mix modeling business to Circana, a deal completed in August 2025. NIQ launched its own MMM in October 2024. We explain the split on Nielsen MMM alternatives and compare the Circana offer on Odins vs Circana.
Does NIQ use Google Meridian for marketing mix modeling?
In part. NIQ became a certified Google Meridian partner in November 2025 and says this complements its proprietary MMM solution. In 2026 it offers MMM studies on Meridian that link an advertiser's media data with NIQ's sales and consumer purchase data. Its main MMM technique is not stated publicly.
How much does NIQ marketing mix modeling cost?
NIQ does not publish pricing for its MMM. Odins is a subscription priced for the budget it optimizes, for companies with a marketing budget from EUR 1M to several hundred million a year, with the team included and no data science hires needed.
Can Odins use retail sales data like NIQ?
Odins models the sales signal you have and share with us, and does not sell retail measurement data of its own. For a brand whose sales run mainly through retailers measured by NIQ, NIQ's store-level data is a genuine strength. For a business selling through its own channels, the orders, subscriptions or applications in your own systems are the signal, and Odins connects them.
Does Odins do matched market testing like NIQ?
Odins is MMM. When the model is uncertain about a channel, the reviewed recommendation proposes a structured test, pulse tests in particular, and the result is taken into the model. Results from geo, matched market or lift tests you have already run are taken into the model too.
What are the best alternatives to NIQ?
It depends on what you need from the model. We compared five options, with sources and who each one fits, on a separate page: the best NIQ alternatives. Odins is on the list, and we say so up front.
