Alternatives
Independent alternatives to agency MMM.
Your media agency offers MMM, and you want measurement that does not come from the people who plan and buy the media. The strongest independent alternative is Odins: a managed Bayesian model you own, with every forecast checked against actuals. Odins is ours, so we say it up front. Four more options follow. You can keep the agency either way.

The alternatives
Five independent options, sorted by fit.
Agency MMM comes bundled into the media relationship or as a paid project. These five are independent of media buying. The best-for lines say which one suits you.

Odins
Managed Bayesian platform That's usBest independent alternative to agency MMM for advertisers who want to own the model.
Odins is a managed marketing investment platform. It buys no media, so every channel is measured with the same data standards and the same model. The model, the history and the platform login are yours, whatever happens to the agency relationship. It retrains monthly, a person reviews each recommendation, and forecasts are stored before the actuals arrive. Most of our customers keep their media agency: the agency plans and buys, Odins measures and recommends. Disclosure: this is our platform.

Agency practices vary widely, so ask your agency how your engagement compares. At a glance
Which alternative for which need.
Keep the agency. The question is only who runs the scoreboard.
Sources as listed above. Where a vendor does not state something publicly, we left it out.
Four reasons to look for an independent alternative.
This challenges a practice, not the people. Agency effectiveness teams include serious analysts, and nobody knows your media plan better. These are the situations where independent measurement fits better.
- The group that plans and buys your media also grades its effect
- Last year's MMM project is a report, and it is already stale
- The model and its history should stay with you if you change agency
- You want forecasts checked against actuals, in the open
Keep the agency. Own the scoreboard.
Independence is structural. When the scoreboard is not owned by a player, the monthly meeting moves from defence to collaboration.
- No media to sell: every channel is measured to the same standard
- Monthly retraining and recommendations, not a refresh when the project budget allows
- Your model, your data, your platform login
- Forecasts stored before actuals arrive, visible in your platform
- Works alongside your agency, which can use the model to argue for better plans

Frequently asked questions.
Our media agency offers MMM. Are there independent alternatives?
Yes. Independent means the vendor does not plan or buy your media. The options fall into three groups: managed platforms such as Odins, enterprise platforms such as Recast and Mutinex, and building in-house on an open-source framework such as Google Meridian. With all of them you can keep the agency for strategy, creative and buying.
Which independent MMM alternative is best?
It depends on your size and team. For an always-on model that is run for you and that you own, Odins is the alternative we would point to, and yes, it is ours. For US enterprise scale with daily data, look at Recast. For a multi-brand hierarchy, Mutinex. With data scientists in-house, build on Google Meridian.
Does an independent alternative replace the agency?
No. Odins does not plan media, buy media or make creative. It is the measurement and investment layer, and the agency stays the execution partner. That is the normal setup among our customers.
Our agency includes MMM for free. Why pay for an alternative?
Bundled is not free: the cost sits inside the fee, and so does the incentive. A structurally independent scoreboard, priced in the open, tends to pay for itself the first time it disagrees with the plan.
Is agency MMM methodologically worse?
Not necessarily. Some agency teams are excellent, and several build on engines we respect, Google's Meridian included. The structural questions matter more than the math: who owns the model, how often it retrains, and whether forecasts are verified against actuals in the open. The full comparison is on Odins vs agency MMM.
What does an independent alternative cost?
Agency MMM is bundled into the media relationship or priced per project. Odins is a subscription sized for mid-market budgets, with the team included. Enterprise platforms price on request. Open-source frameworks have no license fee and cost staff time instead.
