Odins vs SegmentStream
SegmentStream combines cross-channel attribution, geo holdout tests and marginal analytics, and can apply budget changes in the ad platforms. Here is how it compares with Odins: what SegmentStream does well, and where the two take different routes to the budget decision.

Credit first: SegmentStream treats every model as a hypothesis.
SegmentStream says it treats modeling as a hypothesis until evidence backs it, and the product follows through: holdout tests, marginal returns, and a clear line between observed and modeled numbers. That discipline is worth copying.
- Geo holdout tests with synthetic control groups, with the minimum detectable effect worked out before launch
- Marginal ROAS per channel at every spend level, which is the question budget moves turn on
- Observed and modeled conversions kept apart in the reporting
- An MCP with ready-made skills, so teams can query their own data from Claude
Every channel's marginal return, in one model of the whole business.
SegmentStream models marginal ROAS per channel on top of its attribution and runs geo holdout tests alongside. Odins estimates marginal returns inside one Bayesian model per market, where offline media, pricing and promotions compete for the same sales as digital, and a person reviews each recommendation before you act.
- Saturation and marginal returns estimated for TV, radio, OOH and print as well as digital, in the same model
- Pricing, promotions and seasonality modeled next to media, so media is not credited with sales a price cut or a sale drove
- Priors set with your team in 2 to 3 working sessions, built for markets with one national weekly series where geo splits are hard
- Recommendations on budget size and allocation, reviewed by a person, while the ad platforms keep the bidding
Channel contribution, 80% ranges
from the posteriorA tight range is a decision. A wide range is a test plan, with cost boundaries.
The choice
Who should choose which.
Both care about marginal returns and both use experiments. The difference is where the curves come from.
Choose SegmentStream if
- Your spend is mostly in digital channels with click-level tracking
- You want budget changes applied across your ad platforms from one place
- You have enough regions to support frequent geo holdout tests
Choose Odins if
- Offline media, pricing or promotions move your sales
- You want one model to set the total budget as well as the split
- You want the model built, maintained and reviewed for you, with scenarios you run yourself any time
The honest overlap
The overlap is real: both put marginal returns at the center and both take experiments seriously. Attribution keeps its place next to Odins, for optimizing inside each channel. The question is which source sets the budget across channels.
Frequently asked questions.
Is SegmentStream a marketing mix model?
Not in the traditional sense, by its own description. SegmentStream calls its approach marketing mix optimization: cross-channel attribution and predictive conversion modeling, marginal ROAS curves per channel, geo holdout tests and automated budget allocation. Odins is a Bayesian marketing mix model, one per market, run for you.
How much does SegmentStream cost?
SegmentStream does not publish prices. It prices per project after a discovery call, with no per-seat charge, and one proposal covers platform, onboarding, consulting and support. Odins is a subscription priced for the budget it optimizes, with the team included and no data science hires needed.
Can SegmentStream measure TV and other offline media?
SegmentStream describes measuring offline, podcast and word-of-mouth influence through post-purchase survey answers, classified with a language model. Odins puts TV, radio, OOH and print in the model itself, next to digital, pricing and promotions, so their effect on sales is estimated directly.
SegmentStream applies budget changes in the ad platforms. Why does Odins not?
Odins stops at budget size and allocation on purpose. Bidding and in-channel optimization run on more real-time signal than an outside model sees, so that job stays with the ad platforms. Odins sets how much goes where, and a person reviews each recommendation before you act on it.
Do we need geo tests to use Odins?
No. When you have results from geo tests or lift tests, they are taken into the model. Where the data cannot pin down a channel, Odins proposes a structured test, often a pulse test, with the expected cost stated up front.
What are the best alternatives to SegmentStream?
It depends on what you need from the model. We compared five options, with sources and who each one fits, on a separate page: the best SegmentStream alternatives. Odins is on the list, and we say so up front.
