Credit first: MetaMetrics knows its econometrics.
MetaMetrics was founded in 2010 by a former client-side marketer, and its team has worked as clients, consultants and agency people. The models cover the drivers that media-only models skip.
- All drivers on a level playing field: media, price, promotions, weather, the economy and competitors
- Bayesian analysis used where data is thin, collinear or unstable, next to classic regression
- Offline media modeled from deployment data, such as weekly TV ratings
- RapidROI gives a quick read on a new creative or channel in about a week when the data is ready
The same drivers, retrained every month.
MetaMetrics builds a bespoke model and advises on it, with updates timed to your planning year. Odins runs the model as a system: data flows in daily, scenarios and forecasts run any time, and the model is retrained monthly with a recommendation reviewed before it reaches you.
- Priors set with your team in 2 to 3 working sessions from spend history, digital saturation signals and structured interviews, written down before the model runs
- Data integration and structuring included, then data flowing in daily
- Forecasts stored before actuals arrive and checked at every monthly retrain
- Scenarios and forecasts any time, in the platform or from Claude via the Odins MCP
Channel contribution, 80% ranges
from the posteriorA tight range is a decision. A wide range is a test plan, with cost boundaries.
The choice
Who should choose which.
Both model offline media and business drivers. The choice is mostly about how you want to work with the model.
Choose MetaMetrics if
- You want a bespoke econometric study, with consultants who present and defend it
- You need a quick ROI read on a new creative or channel, and your data is ready
- Your media agency is closely involved and you want the analysts working alongside it
Choose Odins if
- You want the model retrained every month, with data flowing in daily
- You want to run scenarios and forecasts yourself, any time, including from Claude
- You want forecasts stored before actuals arrive, so the model's record is open to inspect
The honest overlap
We share more than we differ: both model media next to price, promotions and the economy, both use Bayesian methods where the data needs them, and both take a similar time to a first model once data collection is counted. Ask each of us how the model will be kept current after the first presentation.
Frequently asked questions.
What is MetaMetrics?
MetaMetrics is a London econometrics consultancy, founded in 2010, that builds marketing mix models for brands. Its offer runs from full mix modeling to RapidROI, a lighter model for quick reads, plus MetaOS software for exploring results and bespoke forecasting tools.
Is econometrics the same as marketing mix modeling?
In practice, yes. Econometrics is the statistical method, and marketing mix modeling is its best-known use in marketing. MetaMetrics uses pooled multivariate linear regression, fitted with OLS and Bayesian analysis. Odins builds Bayesian marketing mix models, with priors set with your team before the model sees the data.
How much does MetaMetrics cost?
MetaMetrics does not publish pricing. Its FAQ says a model usually needs at least £1 to 2 million in annual media spend, and the first data review is free. Odins is a subscription priced for the budget it optimizes, for companies with a marketing budget from EUR 1M to several hundred million a year, with the team included and no data science hires needed.
How long does an econometric model take?
MetaMetrics says a typical project takes 6 to 8 weeks, including 3 to 4 weeks for data collection, and that RapidROI can take about a week when the data is ready. Odins delivers a first verified model 4 to 6 weeks from kickoff, data collection and structuring included. Vendors who quote shorter timelines usually count from the day your data is already collected and prepared, and often do not offer data collection at all.
How often should a marketing mix model be updated?
MetaMetrics advises building before annual planning and updating within the year, or when the model and actual results start to diverge. Odins retrains every model monthly on data that flows in daily, so the reviewed recommendation reflects last month, and scenarios and forecasts can be run any time between retrains.
What are the best alternatives to MetaMetrics?
It depends on what you need from the model. We compared five options, with sources and who each one fits, on a separate page: the best MetaMetrics alternatives. Odins is on the list, and we say so up front.
